2. THE YEARS GO BY, AS QUICKLY AS A WINK, in which
Peter and Albertine make that dream come true . . . sort of.
MUSIC UP: I Want to Be Happy” by Vincent Youmans: “I want to be happy, but I won’t be happy, till I make you happy, too.” Peter (22) and Albertine (22) getting married. CUT TO:
Curt (42) and Lizzie (22) in a wild argument, Lizzie
throwing things, Curt ducking.
CUT TO:
Peter (26) working for the Babbington clam council,
at his desk, doodling a drawing of Small’s Hotel.
CUT TO:
Albertine (26) working in a hotel kitchen.
CUT TO:
Curt (46) stealing candy from a baby.
CUT TO:
Peter and Albertine (28) at the First National Bank
of Babbington, getting a mortgage.
CUT TO:
Peter and Albertine (28) on the island, standing on
the dock, holding hands, looking up at the hotel that they have just bought,
happy, full of plans and dreams and hope for the future, now and then checking
a set of blueprints for turning the place into Small’s Hotel.
CUT TO:
Curt (48) picking the pocket of a tourist in Times
Square.
CUT TO:
Peter (30) working to repair the dock.
CUT TO:
Albertine (30) repairing clapboards.
CUT TO:
Curt (50) picking the coinbox on a newspaper vending
box.
CUT TO:
Peter and Albertine (32) going through bills, worrying.
CUT TO:
Curt (52) grabbing cash from a Salvation Army bucket.
CUT TO:
