INT. A SUBURBAN LIVING ROOM. MOM is knitting. JUNIOR and SIS are on the floor, doing homework. DAD is reading the newspaper, scowling.

ANNOUNCER (V. O.)

(orotund and unctuous)

Say, Mom, your family’s counting on you!  They’re counting on you to come up with something clever to do in the evenings.

ANNOUNCER (CONT’D, V. O.)

Something that will make them forget, for a few happy hours, the monotony of work and the tedium of school.

ANNOUNCER (CONT’D, V. O.)

Before you drag out that old anagrams game, better stop a moment and think!

ANNOUNCER (CONT’D, V. O.)

Is the same old thing going to pull them up out of the dumps again this evening?  Or will this be the night that Dad turns to drink, and Junior and Sis start doing nasty things to each other in the closet?

ANNOUNCER (CONT’D, V. O.)

Bring a little novelty into their lives!  Get them making gewgaws, whatnots, knickknacks, and bric-a-brac from empty clamshells.  They’ll love it!  And they’ll love you for thinking of it!

ANNOUNCER (CONT’D, V. O.)

Clamshells . . . the answer to family boredom.
