Methods of Organization
“The first principle of composition,” wrote William Strunk in The
Elements of Style, “is to foresee or determine the shape of what is
to come and pursue that shape.” A solid structure underlies every
effective online course.
Choose a method of organization that suits the material you want to
present.
If you want to teach: |

A Note on Random Access
Even if you are convinced that students will learn best if they follow
the course exactly as you have laid it out, give them the option of moving
around in any way they wish.
Why?
Your students will be a diverse group.
Some will know more than others; the knowledgeable ones
will want to skip lessons on topics that they already know.
Some will want to preview parts of the course before they
work through it methodically.
